Protect your Data, the Most Valuable Asset!!

It’s been long, I last wrote, was little tied up with work & also I was thinking what should be the next subject for my blog. Well, most of the times I have served people in getting their lost data recovered. There are many issues people face when it comes to their Data Security & Recovery. So, before I jump onto Data Recovery Solutions, let me start off with Data Security.

Data Security

Data Security means protecting a database from destructive forces and the unwanted actions of unauthorized users (Wikipedia). There are various technologies available for securing your data; like Disk Encryption, Security Tokens, Hardware based Access Controls, Data Backup & much more. Hardware based data security technologies are more secure than the protection provided by the operating systems; as operating systems are vulnerable to malicious attacks by viruses and hackers. In case of a malicious access, the chance of corruption of the data on hard disks increases. With hardware based security, it becomes impossible for a hacker or a malicious program to gain access to secured data by hardware or perform any unauthorized user privileged operations. Therefore, a completely secure system can be created using a combination of both the hardware based security and secure system administration policies.

Data Backup

Data Backup is a process of backing up of data, which means copying and archiving of computer data so it may be used to restore the original data even after a data loss event, which can be due to either Data Deletion or Corruption. In today’s time it is really a simple process to take a Backup, you don’t need any heavy or advanced equipment, simple CDs, DVDs, Pen drives, etc. now make it simple & easy to always have a Backup of your Data. Owning a Backup Device basically depends on the size of your data; if the size is small enough then Optical Devices likes CDs, DVDs, can help. Now-a-days external HDDs are also available in various sizes, so you can have your external HDD according to the size of your Data 500GB or 1TB would be sufficient.

The above mentioned devices are generally for personal purposes, but when it comes to having a Backup of your Office Data; Network Attached Storage (NAS) Devices really help. NAS is a file-level computer data storage connected to a computer network providing data access to a heterogeneous group of clients (Wikipedia). It is generally manufactured as a specialized computer built mainly for storing and serving files. These devices are gaining popularity, for their features like; convenient, faster, easy administration & simple configuration.

What if the Data is Lost & there is no Backup??

This is a very common problem; every one of us must have faced once in a lifetime. The most common scenario of losing the data involves software or hardware failure, in such conditions Data Recovery helps. Data recovery is the process of salvaging data from damaged, failed, corrupted, or inaccessible secondary storage media when it cannot be accessed normally (Wikipedia). This process generally involves Hardware Repair, Imaging the drive to new drive, Logical Recovery of Data & Repairing the damaged files. Therefore, it is very important that you always try to keep a Backup of your Data, specially the one you feel is very crucial.

Is your Laptop falling sick? Confused between Repair or Replace, Read On!!

Being a Computer Hardware Professional; I have been answering this question for decades “Should I buy a new Laptop or repair this old one itself?” Answering this is not tough, I have doing it for years & now thought that before you ask this from your computer repairing zone, let me answer this for you. Repairing a laptop depends on various factors, the most common & the essential are:
  • Age of your laptop – if the laptop is less than 3 years, it is worth repairing it.
  • What exactly is the problem? – Identification of the exact problem is important, Does it need a major repair or small fixes can only help; for example if the laptop is slow, this may happen due to excessive unwanted files, less disk space or RAM, or even the operating system (Windows vista) , so operations like disk cleanup or upgrading your RAM & software may help. If you do not know what the problem is, you can ask your tech savvy friends, relatives or take it to the service centers.
  • Compare the cost of buying a new one or repair the existing one – Workout the cost for both & compare the same, if you find the difference is not much then buying a new laptop is a better option.
In case of repairing, make sure that the following questions are addressed:
  1. How much warranty you get on repairs?
  2. How long will the repairs take?
  3. Will they back up your hard drive before making repairs, so that there is no data loss?
  4. How trust worthy is the repair center? This is important, as now-days lots of them are indulged in malpractice.
Once you have answers to these questions, it will be easy to take a decision. :-) Therefore, I highly recommend you to first go for proper research & diagnosis of your problem & then take a decision. We at Micro-Tech Computers are very sensitive towards customers & their problems. We make sure that they do not fall in traps & make the best of decisions for them.

Ultrabook – The New Possession

PC Industry has undergone some major innovations in the last few years, ranging from lighter weight laptops to tablets making life easier & convenient when it comes to mobility & accessibility. Though, the penetration of tablets in the market is extensively high, but it still doesn’t answer the question when it comes to productivity, when compared to traditional laptops & desktops. With such an issue, the need of the hour was to innovate something which should be an amalgam of a laptop & a tablet & then came the Ultrabooks.

When the concept of Ultrabook, was first disclosed by Intel, the market was keen on the idea with a lethal combination of the features of both tablet & laptop. Though after the launch, it couldn’t reach the levels it was expected to, but with the launch of Windows 8, it is expected to change the vision for Ultrabook & not only the operating system, but also the newer convertible designs of Ultrabook.

Comparing with tablet & laptop, these differences do matter. Ultrabook is much lighter & thinner, aesthetically appealing. The hardware used on an Ultrabook is Intel ULV platform which ensures extended battery life & delivers good performance & efficiency. Also, in order to save space; the battery is encased & non-removable, which definitely is not the case with a Laptop. With its processor, productivity & efficiency being the USP, it is sooner going to penetrate the market at a faster rate.

In-case you are looking forward to have one; you should look at these models:

Samsung Series 9 (NP900X3C) - Unbelievably well built, Stunning form factor, Slimness defies all common logic, very good system performance, Excellent battery life, Crisp & bright display

HP Folia 13 – Cheaper than some Ultrabooks, Decent specs for the price, Comfortable keyboard

HP Envy 4-1102TX - Excellent performance, Looks great, Built well, Very powerful graphics, Surprisingly good real life usage scenario battery life

Lenovo U310 U410 – Great price, Ivy Bridge CPU, Nvidia graphics, Brilliant sound, Massive HDD

Sony VAIO T Series 15 Touch Ultrabook – Sleek and attractive design, Full HD touch-screen display, Solid performance and graphics, Compelling suite of multimedia apps

Comment below & let us what you feel about an Ultrabook. If you wish to know more, call us at +919810037064 or drop a mail at microtekndf@gmail.com, we’ll be happy to help you anytime.

Increase your Internet Speed by 10% in 3 simple steps?

Since the inception of Internet, it has been one of the most useful technologies of the modern times. It has helped us not only in our professional lives, but has taken a role of daily dossier. I am sure there must have been times when you would have faced difficulty in your Internet Connection, which is really frustrating at times especially when you are up-to, something that is really important. Having a fast & efficient Internet connection is a vital component, whether you are at home or at work. As more & more Internet-ready devices are being utilized, keeping your web speed up is more important than ever. Though internet speed depends upon your ISP and package you have bought, but let me tell you some very basic 3 levels, which can help you in boosting up your web speed.

1. Troubleshooting\ The Layman Fixes :-)
  • Turn your Modem Off and On: Sometimes a simple reset can increase your Internet speed. You can also turn your router on and off to see if that's helpful. Just make sure that you know your network key in case your computer requires you to enter it after the reset.
  • Keep a Regular Check on your Devices: Regularly check all modem and router cables to ensure solid and clean connections. Dirty, dusty, or loose cables leading from DSL modem to your wireless router or computer can cause significant reductions in your internet speed. Therefore, it is really important to blow out the dirt and dust in the connectors. Maintain proper ventilation around all electrical components to avoid overheating.
  • Avoid Running Multiple Devices at Once: Turn off the internet access of the Smartphone’s, Tablet’s, Smart TV’s or other devices that you aren't currently using and see if your Internet speed increases.
2. Software Fixes
  • Clear your Cookies, Cache and Browser History: You may want to do this monthly to maintain optimum speed.
  • Scan your System for Unwanted Guests: Sometimes viruses, spyware, adware or malware can slow your Internet connection. Close all of your applications and run your anti-virus program once in a while to get rid of such nuisances.
  • Perform System Clean-up Regularly: Temporary files or unwanted files can sometimes slow down your web speed. Get rid of these through disk clean up at least once per week.
3. Get New Equipment
  • Upgrade your Modem or Router to a Newer Model of High Speed: Today 600Mbps high speed N series Wi-Fi routers are available in Netgear & Dlink offer some of the most cost effective products, which help you a great deal to add speed to your existing internet connection.

Well we guess if you try any of the above mentioned tips and tools, you’ll definitely find a solution to your nagging internet speed issues. Moreover we at MTC offer a great deal of products and services which include Sale of Servers & Workstations, Peripherals, Data storage & Networking and much more which can definitely boost the performance of your IT networks and make you all the more efficient.
