Protect your Data, the Most Valuable Asset!!

It’s been long, I last wrote, was little tied up with work & also I was thinking what should be the next subject for my blog. Well, most of the times I have served people in getting their lost data recovered. There are many issues people face when it comes to their Data Security & Recovery. So, before I jump onto Data Recovery Solutions, let me start off with Data Security.

Data Security

Data Security means protecting a database from destructive forces and the unwanted actions of unauthorized users (Wikipedia). There are various technologies available for securing your data; like Disk Encryption, Security Tokens, Hardware based Access Controls, Data Backup & much more. Hardware based data security technologies are more secure than the protection provided by the operating systems; as operating systems are vulnerable to malicious attacks by viruses and hackers. In case of a malicious access, the chance of corruption of the data on hard disks increases. With hardware based security, it becomes impossible for a hacker or a malicious program to gain access to secured data by hardware or perform any unauthorized user privileged operations. Therefore, a completely secure system can be created using a combination of both the hardware based security and secure system administration policies.

Data Backup

Data Backup is a process of backing up of data, which means copying and archiving of computer data so it may be used to restore the original data even after a data loss event, which can be due to either Data Deletion or Corruption. In today’s time it is really a simple process to take a Backup, you don’t need any heavy or advanced equipment, simple CDs, DVDs, Pen drives, etc. now make it simple & easy to always have a Backup of your Data. Owning a Backup Device basically depends on the size of your data; if the size is small enough then Optical Devices likes CDs, DVDs, can help. Now-a-days external HDDs are also available in various sizes, so you can have your external HDD according to the size of your Data 500GB or 1TB would be sufficient.

The above mentioned devices are generally for personal purposes, but when it comes to having a Backup of your Office Data; Network Attached Storage (NAS) Devices really help. NAS is a file-level computer data storage connected to a computer network providing data access to a heterogeneous group of clients (Wikipedia). It is generally manufactured as a specialized computer built mainly for storing and serving files. These devices are gaining popularity, for their features like; convenient, faster, easy administration & simple configuration.

What if the Data is Lost & there is no Backup??

This is a very common problem; every one of us must have faced once in a lifetime. The most common scenario of losing the data involves software or hardware failure, in such conditions Data Recovery helps. Data recovery is the process of salvaging data from damaged, failed, corrupted, or inaccessible secondary storage media when it cannot be accessed normally (Wikipedia). This process generally involves Hardware Repair, Imaging the drive to new drive, Logical Recovery of Data & Repairing the damaged files. Therefore, it is very important that you always try to keep a Backup of your Data, specially the one you feel is very crucial.
